LPDDR5, as a memory specification for mobile devices, has become a mainstream configuration for smartphones, tablet computers, and other devices, thanks to its advantages of low power consumption and high bandwidth. In 2023, Changxin Memory Technology launched its self-developed LPDDR5 DRAM memory chip, achieving a breakthrough in the Chinese market, marking a crucial step for domestically produced memory modules in the field of mobile device storage. Domestic LPDDR5 memory boasts comprehensive technical competitiveness. According to the JEDEC standard, LPDDR5 starts at a rate of 3200Mbps and can reach up to 6400Mbps, with bandwidth more than doubled compared to LPDDR4. Changxin Memory's LPDDR5 products are manufactured using a 17nm process, with a single chip capacity of 16Gb and support for a 1.05V low voltage design, resulting in a power consumption reduction of more than 30% compared to LPDDR4. These features perfectly align with the dual demands of mobile devices for high performance and long battery life, meeting the needs of flagship phones for multitasking, high-definition video playback, and other demanding application scenarios.
The breakthrough in domestic LPDDR5 has solved the "bottleneck" problem in mobile storage. Prior to this, the global LPDDR5 market was monopolized by international giants such as Samsung and SK Hynix, and domestic mobile phone manufacturers relied entirely on imports, posing potential risks to supply chain security. The mass production of Changxin LPDDR5 not only provides new options for domestic mobile phone manufacturers but also promotes the localization of the entire mobile storage supply chain. Currently, several domestic mobile phone brands have begun testing models equipped with Changxin LPDDR5 memory, and it is expected to achieve large-scale commercial use by 2026.
In the future, domestically produced LPDDR5 will evolve towards higher performance. Changxin Memory has initiated the research and development of LPDDR5X technology. The maximum speed of LPDDR5X will be increased to 8533Mbps, with further bandwidth enhancement while maintaining the advantage of low power consumption. With continuous technological iteration, domestically produced mobile memory will surpass international competitors in terms of performance, power consumption, and cost. Furthermore, the technological accumulation of LPDDR5 will lay the foundation for the research and development of domestically produced automotive-grade memory, expanding the application scenarios of domestically produced memory modules.
